Breaking Generational Curses By Sharing This Recipe

While growing up, my Mom had recipes, of course. But there were some things that she didn't have a recipe for and when asked about accurate measurements, she'd say she wouldn't have it & that she would just REMEMBER what to add...

How was I supposed to learn to make or bake things without a recipe?

Check out this recipe for Mississippi Sweet Potato Pie. Please jazz it up however you like (Sorry for the folks who are vegan. Maybe someday I'll make this pie with substitutes. But for now, tradition is tradition & rituals are rituals. My Grannies would NOT be okay, if I made this ish without eggs, butter or milk)

2 cups of sweet potatoes (grab 3 medium sweet potatoes)

4 oz. of butter (a whole stick)

2 cups of sugar

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk

3 eggs

1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 teaspoon of vanilla

2 pie shells (this makes 2 pies)

I usually blend the cinnamon, vanilla & eggs together & mix the sweet potatoes, sugar, milk together. Then pour the cinnamon mixture into the sweet potato mixture. Mix everything together well.

350 degrees for 1 hour should do it! Don't forget to feed your ancestors the first slice!

Enjoy!
