Labor Dystocia

What’s Labor Dystocia?

Labor Dystocia refers to slow or stop of progress in labor.

It’s the most common reason birthing folks have cesarean sections.

Intrinsic causes:

-waves (contractions)

-size, shape, joint mobility of pelvis

-shape of head and position of fetus & positioning

Extrinsic causes:

-environment

-birth center/hospital policies

-ethno-cultural factors (how much a birthing person’s cultural based needs and preferences are honored and respected)

Did you know that doulas/care givers can use simple interventions to help birthing folks maintain labor?

Have you ever been told that your labor was a “failure to progress”? How did that make you feel?

Sound off!
